Hello Neighbors!
This post is going to be more stream of consciousness – sorry in advance.
It’s my personal practice to preserve the energy of my home and my hearth where I practice my magick, and to protect the boundary I created with the protection spell I cast at Samhain.
So upon returning from a trip for the holidays, like several of you I’m sure, to my parents house, I realized something. There is something magical that happens to us when we move out of our parents house and stoke our own fires, build our own hearths, and gather our kith and kin close. We change, we grow we evolve, and we may not do things the same way our parents do or did. We may even be less tolerant to some of the things our parents still do, but to protect our relationships we don’t make a fuss about these things. This time around I may have made the mistake of being honest with my parents about one thing that bothers me when coming to their house, and it’s settled in to my consciousness and my soul for the remainder of the weekend.
This specific thing was relating to smells and washing clothes, and this got me thinking, that my act of washing my clothes after we get back from our trips is very ritualized. It is a ritual for me to take my suitcases out of the car, place them in my laundry room, and wash everything. I literally wash away the dirt, the smells, and, the energy that accumulated in that foreign space.
FYI my laundry room is outside of my house, so I can wash away all the stagnant or negative energy before it even enters my house.

If this was not the case for me, I would cast a spell around the suitcases beseeching them to keep the energies inside their bounds until the clothing are fully removed, and cleansed. You can then cleanse the suitcases the same way you would any other object, sound, water, smoke. I would waive some incense around the inside of the bags with the intention to clear them of this energy.
If you too had this feeling upon returning from a relatives house perhaps you too need to cleanse the energy from the things that entered the house.
A word of caution, my week long trip for two adults and one small child created half a dozen loads of laundry to wash, dry, and, fold, then put away. This took so much of my personal energy to cleanse that I was in a reduced state for the remainder of the week. It makes sense that cleansing away a week’s worth of pent up energy would take so much energy from you. So please if you can, budget time to recharge after your cleanse, I didn’t and I’ve been paying for it.
Some ways I would like to improve this practice would be to make my own laundry detergent to imbue within it herbs that would support and promote my intentions of cleansing. We currently use lavender essential oil on our wool dryer balls – which if you don’t already use I absolutely recommend – but I could also further support my intentions with an essential oil blend on the dryer balls; and saying a spell over the dryer balls as I add the oils since I add them between every load.

Do you have any rituals you didn’t think we’re rituals? Or anything you do to protect your energy, or the energy of your household? I’d love to hear about them in the comments.
