Good Morning! (it probably isn’t morning where you are, but for the sake of the content, let’s go with it) Have you ever felt stifled in your daily routine, or constantly feel like you’re trying to fit some magick in somewhere between making dinner and shuffling off to your next activity? I used to feel this way until I realized that you can incorporate magick into your everyday routine, and it’s easier than you may think. Incorporating magick or intention is where a routine becomes a ritual, and I’m going to break it down for you with examples from my own experience.
As I was building my regular practice, I often felt like I was trying to find a space in my schedule to make magick; and often this would be squished in somewhere between putting my daughter to bed, and before I passed out from exhaustion, so not likely to actually happen. Until it finally clicked for me one day, that everything I was doing each day if done with intention could be magical. I started saying a simple spell with my intentions for the day as I stirred my morning coffee, or as I lit a candle, or as I was cutting the vegetables before feeding my family a nutritious meal, and so many other things can be magical too; I’m constantly looking for ways to integrate more magick into my life.
One of the first steps I recommend you take is to write out your daily routine, there are some great resources online, I recommend this free printable from Passion Planner, but all you really need is a sheet of paper (physical or digital) and a way to make glyphs appear (a writing implement if you will). You’ll want to start by filling in the tasks you do every day or most days. As you do this, think about why you do these things, and how long you normally do them for. I love the “Space of Infinite Possibility” on the Passion Planner printable because you can complete the daily schedule with something like Morning Routine, 30 min, and break this down on the side into different parts. For me this would look like Wake Up, Brush Teeth, Take immune support potion, Get ready to leave.

Once you’ve assessed what your regular habits are, you can make note of which tasks are highly intentional for you, or which tasks could become more intentional. Those become your “key activities”. My key activities are my immune support potion, morning coffee, daily tarot card pull, and daily meal prep; though I’m desperately trying to add exercise to that list. Really ask yourself why you do these activities, and how you can make these more intentional. For instance as I’m stirring my immune support potion I recite a spell for my health and wellbeing. I do something similar for my coffee, often after I’ve arrived at work, to put forth my intentions for the day.
Once you have a solid selection of activities, and you understand what your intentions are for each activity, you can begin to design your ritual. That can be as simple as doing certain tasks in a specific order with the right intention every day, to as complicated as writing spells to go along with your tasks, and identifying specific herbs that help enhance and define your ritual. Your magick is all about what you make it. I prefer to structure my day for what makes the most sense for my day. So I’ll get up and make my immune potion, I start by setting a kettle to boil, then I add the citrus compound to a mug with some lemon balm syrup, and add the hot water stirring while I recite “to my health, to my health, to my health”. Then I typically get myself and my daughter ready to leave the house. Then I make my coffee spelling it with my objectives for the day as I stir – which is an excellent way to build energy – and then I drink the coffee which has a grounding effect, and sets me on the right foot for the day. After that I will typically pull a tarot card and write the message it is providing me, then I’ll get into the nitty gritty of my day.

Once you have a ritual outlined, or in detail you’ll want to practice it for a while. This is a great opportunity to utilize your book of shadows as you go. You can also use a journal, or even a planner. You’ll want to take note of how easy it is for you to execute your ritual, or if you have trouble, and what is causing you this trouble. You’ll also want to reflect on how each aspect of your ritual makes you feel. What made you feel good, positive, powerful even; and just as noteworthy, what didn’t make you feel anything as well. Here’s a tip: if it doesn’t make you feel good or empowered, try changing it up. Of course you won’t recognize this if you don’t practice it for a while, so give it a few tries, and make any practice your own, keep making changes until you feel the most empowered.
After you’ve been following your ritual for a while, this will differ from person to person, take out your book of shadows, and review your reflections on your ritual. Any aspect of your ritual that becomes a challenge, is an opportunity to make improvements. Be sure to give yourself grace, and be flexible as you attune yourself to doing certain tasks with specific intentions. But do make changes, and then reflect on those as well until you get to a point where your daily ritual is like second nature. Allow yourself to make adaptations to your ritual as your schedule dictates. I may not be able to get all of my ritual in on a Saturday morning if I have an activity that day, but I will do my best to make my coffee and spell it with my objectives for the day, so that I feel my most powerful before I interact with the energies of the rest of the world.

If you want more intentional magick in your daily life, consider setting up a daily ritual. Assess your routine, identify your core elements, take those elements and design a core ritual. You can flesh this out as much as you want, with specific ingredients, or spells. Practice your ritual with consistency for a set period of time per your determination, remembering to reflect on your ritual as you go. Then take time to reflect upon your experiences, and make adaptations where you see fit until your daily ritual becomes second nature. Like I said earlier I’m working to add my fitness routine to my daily ritual, and I can’t wait to share my experiences on this. I would love to hear from you and learn what is essential to your daily ritual; or where you’re having difficulties, so we can learn from each other.
